For the first time in Walibi Belgium's history, the park had a winter opening. Walibi opened under the name Winter Walibi and the event was a hit. The park had a multitude of different winter activities and bathed the entire park into Christmas lights.
The experience
We visited the park on the 30th of December. Upon arrival we saw some big lines to buy tickets and to get into the park. However when we went into the park the crowds died down quickly and most lines were around 20 minutes. Although the two biggest coasters, Kondaa and Werewolf, both had a 45 minute queue line due to both coasters running on one train.
The first attraction that we did was the car ride at the entrance that was rethemed especially for Christmas. I had never done this ride before and I was pleasantly surprised by the views and angles we could find.

After this ride we wanted to do something more thrilling, so as any sane person would do, we did Pulsar. The line for Pulsar was only 15 minutes, you can guess why, so that was great. And luckily we didn’t get too wet. After Pulsar we did Silverton. I hadn’t done this flat ride yet and it was very fun, although the other Side cars that I have ridden are better.
After these rides we were a tiny bit hungry , so we ate sausage bread. These are quite expensive, as they cost around 7 euros for a small sausage bread, but they are delicious.
After our food break we went on Calamity Mine which had a 20 minute wait. The ride was only running on two trains which is less than normal. The station building was disgusting as there was puke just lying on the ground.
Kondaa was the next ride that we did. The queue was still 45 minutes long, therefore we decided to use the single riders queue which was about a 10 minutes wait. Ultimately I was very lucky and I was able to get the front row. Kondaa was running amazingly and the airtime was outstanding.
After Kondaa we did our first dark ride of the day, Challenge of Tutankhamon. This ride will get a 1 million euros refurbishment, which is really needed. Most effects don’t work anymore and the ride looks quite rundown. The smell in the show building was quite a musty smell hanging around. Overall quite a bad experience, which is a shame because this ride is a real gem.
Afterwards we went to Psyké Underground, the Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop coaster. This ride is pure fun and will also get a refurbishment next season, which could turn out to be a real shame as the iconic theming and name could disappear. The ride will get a harbor theme and is rumored to most likely get the name Turbine back. Some of the key elements that make Psyké Underground such an iconic coaster, like its iconic theme song, had already disappeared, which is a real shame.
The last coaster that we rode was Cobra, the Vekoma Boomerang. The ride was surprisingly smooth, but had some jolts which hurt quite bad. There is nothing special about this ride, but it was very forceful.
The last ride that we did was Popcorn Revenge. This shooting dark ride is a must do and always is a lot of fun. The operations were quite bad though and we waited longer than the advertised waiting time. Of course I won ;) and it was a great ending to our time in Walibi Belgium. i
Walibi offered some special food offerings for their winter event. You could visit a real Christmass market where you could buy food. We bought a waffle on a stick, with some ‘Lotus speculoos’. They were very tasty, although they weren’t as good as the ones that we had in Farup Sommerland.
Winter activities
Walibi Belgium was brimming with enjoyable activities that were organized for their winter event. Ranging from the Christmas market that was mentioned before to several rethemed attractions. They were also playing a special 4D film and they rethemed a haunted house to a walk through experience that is in line with the holidays. You could also meet Santa and you could go ice skating. The lights and other colorful decorations made sure Walibi Belgium was very cozy in the evening hours.
Conclusion

Walibi Winter was one of the better visits that I have had in a long time in Walibi Belgium. The crowds weren’t out of proportion and the park had an amazing atmosphere. Although their operations weren’t the greatest, we didn’t mind waiting in queues for around 20 minutes. I would definitely say that Walibi did a great job for their first winter Event and hope to see it return next year!
