Toverland: one of the best parks in the Netherlands

Writer: AagjeAagje

I recently visited Toverland for the first time in a very long time. This was my third visit ever and certainly the best visit I ever had. I always liked this park and this visit reminded me why. In fact the park was way better than I remembered.

Toverland is a theme park located in Sevenum in the Netherlands. The park opened in 2001 and already is one of the biggest parks in the Benelux. The park is home to a total of five coasters (six if you also count Maximus Blitz Bahn). It is also home to a variety of really great flat rides.

Getting to the park

We took the train from Antwerp Central Station. From here we had to transfer two times, which is quite reasonable, first in Breda and then in Eindhoven, where we could take a direct train to Sevenum its station. From here we took a bus that was easily findable as there are markers for it around the station.

The park is located in quite a rural and remote area but it is easily reachable by the means of public transport or by car.

Entering the park

We got our tickets at the information booth. You can get your tickets online or at the entrance itself. Most of the time you will enter the park through the main entrance located at Port Laguna. This area is the designated entrance area and contains no attractions. Although it has a show and some fun activities during the summer.

The rides

From Port Laguna you can get to the entire park in no time. We went directly to their indoor area and there we chilled a bit. After we had eaten a bit we went to do the first ride. This was their rapids river named Djengu River. Normally this ride isn’t too wet and just sprinkles you a bit, but this day all effects were on and my back was totally soaked from the waterfall.

After we rode Djengu River we did Fenix. This coaster is very forceful and was running amazingly well. We had several rides on Fenix during the day and all of them were great. I blacked out several times during the day which I don’t do very often.

We also rode one of their new attractions for this 2023, Dragonwatch. This is a family style drop tower similar to the toy story themed one that you can find in the Disney parks.

Later in the day we also rode Troy. Troy is a GCI wooden coaster that opened in 2007. Troy wasn’t very good from what I could remember and the ride definitely doesn’t live up to the hype. This time around it was forceful but it was very rough which left a bittersweet impression in my mouth. The ride has potential but it desperately needs a retrack.

We also rode Dwervelwind, their Mack Rides family spinning coaster. I never laughed so much on a coaster before. This ride is pure fun when you ride it with people you know.

To get a bit of variation we also tried their fun house named Villa Fiasko. I am terrified of fun houses but always try to do them. This fun house was very good but nothing out of the ordinary. You can find Villa Fiasko in the indoor area.

The last two rides that we did were Maximus Blitz Bahn and Expedition Zork. Both of these rides had long queue lines. Maximus Blitz Bahn is a powered alpine style coaster which is quite a lot of fun and Expedition Zork is one of the best log flumes I have ever done.

The food

This park offers some excellent food. Although it is mostly your standard theme park food you can get some great things. For example their snacks that come out of the wall are some of the best theme park snacks that I have eaten (spoiler alert, I ate a lot of them). You can also get some more premium food in their sit down restaurant named The Flaming Feather, but this is still something that I have to try.

Conclusion

This recent park visit made Toverland so much greater for me. It is a park that you have to visit. It has some great rides, great theming, great food… The park is an example for other parks. So if you are looking to visit, don’t hesitate and just go!
