The WILDEST theme park in France | Fraispertuis City review

Writer: AagjeAagje

Timbur its first drop, which is the STEEPEST in Europe

Fraispertuis City is a theme park located in the Lorraine region of France. The park opened in 1966 and is still in the hands of the family that opened it.

We visited Fraispertuis City as the first park of our big trip through the middle of Europe and were very pleasantly surprised.

Fraispertuis City is home to a total of three roller coasters. The first one that you will notice, which is also the biggest, is Timber Drop. A separate review will come out later, so be sure to check that one out!

The two other coasters are a very small Tivoli coaster, manufactured by Zierer, and a Soquet family mine train coaster. This unique coaster is called Grand Canyon and is located in the middle of the park.

Our experience

When you arrive at the park, you will instantly notice that the setting is gorgeous! Fraispertuis City is nestled comfortably between the hills.

Another positive thing that you will also instantly notice is that the parking is free! You just drive onto the gravel parking and drive off again when you leave, no barriers in sight. As someone from Belgium, where you have to pay for parking everywhere, this was a bit of a culture shock and a bit confusing, to be honest. We were searching for the prices while in the park until we discovered that it was free.

When you enter the park, you will discover that the entrance experience isn’t big. Normally, this would be a bit of a downer, but in Fraispertuis City, it actually fits the theme quite nicely.

Fraispertuis City is almost fully Western-themed. The American Gold Rush, to be exact. So entering the small Western village is quite fitting.

Once inside the park, you can choose between three directions to go in. We decided to go left, where most of the bigger rides are located. This area is still Western-themed but a bit more open and less city-like.

In this area, you will also find Fraispertuis City’s tallest and best ride: Golden Driller. This is an Intamin Drop Tower with four different sides. These sides are: Sit down, Sit down tilt, Stand up with floor (and it also tilts), and Stand up without floor (which also tilts).

The stand-up side with the floor is definitely the best side. It is as scary as the other stand-up side, but it is way more comfortable as you can stand on the floor. The drop tower also gives amazing views of the park and the surrounding area.

Fraispertuis City is also home to two smaller themed areas: a small Mexican-themed area and a pirate-themed area. In this pirate-themed area, they were playing Pirates of the Caribbean music, which was quite funny to hear.

Other than the drop tower and the three coasters, the park doesn’t have too many major rides. The park does have a log flume, which we didn’t do. It is also home to another fun drop tower. (It is actually home to four drop towers in total). This fun drop tower, themed to a cactus, has some special effects and great views.

So Fraispertuis City has a very solid ride collection with some unique rides. If you want to do all the rides, I would recommend spending a whole day. We did all of the coasters and the two biggest drop towers, and we even spent half a day at the park, granted we did get some re-rides on Timber Drop and Golden Driller.

Another aspect that the park did well was theming. All of their rides had some extent of theming, and they were all well kept. When walking around the park, you really feel like you're in the Wild West.

The food

The food in Fraispertuis City was also quite a pleasant surprise. They offered a wide variety of healthy options such as different kinds of salads, bagels, and sandwiches. Obviously, they also offer your standard theme park food such as hamburgers and snacks.

Conclusion

Overall, we had a pleasant day at Fraispertuis City! Although their ride collection may not be world-class, we could entertain ourselves and enjoy what they had to offer. The park is well kept, and you can see that management really puts some love into it. The park is expected to open a new coaster in the near future, so the future is bright for Fraispertuis City.

If you haven’t visited the park yet, I really recommend you do! And if you have, don't hesitate to leave your thoughts below this post!
