Should you visit BonBon-land?

We visited Bonbon-Land as the third park on the trip and the first real Scandinavian park. We arrived two hours prior to opening due to the fact that we had travelled all night all the way from Hansa Park to get here. We spent a total of two hours in the park. We did have fun but we were a bit disappointed as we had expected more.

Getting to the park

Bonbon land is located in Holme-Olstrup, this is a place quite close to Copenhagen. The park is easily accessible by car or train. We went by train and then walked around 10 minutes to get to the park. The connections to this station are great and you can get here from anywhere in Denmark. The entrance itself is nothing special and it doesn’t have any facilities except the entrance gates itself. This formed quite the problem for me as I had to go to the toilet and there weren’t any available.

All the information is also displayed in Danish which can be quite the task to decipher. After solving the riddle which is the Danish language we finally found the booth where we could get our tickets. We had free tickets because we have a Slagharen annual pass and like Slagharen this park is part of Parques Reunidos.

The gates opened around ten minutes before the park officially opened which was great because this gave me the opportunity to finally go to the toilet, or at least that is what I thought. You see, the first toilets are located behind the rope drop which does drop right at 10 o’clock. So I had to wait a few more minutes before I could finally go. After finally going to the toilet we went to ride our first rides.

The rides

This park's layout is quite weird actually. It isn’t a perfect circle and there are a lot of dead ends. The rides are clustered in groups around the park and some of the rides open later. The first coaster we found was Hundeprutten, which translates to dog fart. This is a standard Zierer force one, a model which we rode a lot during our trip. It was nothing special but it gave some fun forces.

Next we went to the three remaining coasters which are all clustered together. The first of the three that we did was Vild-Svinet. This is a Gerstlauerer Eurofighter. It is actually the first Eurofigher that was ever built and I can say that it shows. The layout is super short and it doesn’t really deliver in force. The one upside to this coaster is the fact that it is quite smooth.

Next we rode Han-Katten, this is a Gerstlaurer spinning coaster. Although the coaster is a clone and can be found in several parks, is it a lot of fun. We were the only ones in the vehicle so we spun like crazy. This coaster is easily the best ride in the park. The rides was also really smooth and didn’t have any bumps which made it really enjoyable.

The last coaster that we did was Viktor Vandorm. This was a very unique Zierer Tivoli. To my surprise it was super long and even though it was this long it went two times. The coaster does feel like a glorified monorail though. But it was so much fun and we giggled the whole time. One of the most unique features of this coaster is the station which is elevated high in the air.

We did all the coasters in 45 minutes because the park was deserted, so if you want to do the rides quickly I recommend you go to the park when it opens because the coasters did get long lines after a while.

We also did their drop tower called Cobratarnet. This was a fun drop tower but nothing too special.

The last ride which we did was the giant pendulum swing named Svend Svingarm. This ride was definitely the best ride in the park. The colour scheme is so much fun with the smiley on the underside. The ride itself is really forceful and gives some fantastic views of the park and its surroundings.

The atmosphere

The park's theme is quite tacky. The theming itself isn’t of high quality and it is almost all run down. I would really call this place ‘plastic fantastic'. But it is very unique, which is an important trade and it makes the park very memorable. The landscaping in the park is bad to ok but it doesn't really look that great.

The atmosphere in the park itself isn’t that great, and it felt really corporate to me. All the attractions were just put down somewhere with no thought about it. Which also gives the impression that the park looks messy and it just doesn’t look good.

Another impression that I would like to share is the fact that the park didn’t smell good. Some of the queue lines smelled like wet cats which I find interesting to say the least. I could imagine that waiting there for a long time would be very unpleasant.

Conclusion

Bonbon-land was a unique park that wasn't anything special. The ride line-up is weak and the park looks ugly. If you are doing a trip and you have an annual pass to any of the Parques Reunidos parks you should give this park a try but don’t expect to spend anything longer than a few hours. I don’t expect to visit this park again in the near future, except if they add a major new addition.
