Sunday the 23rd of July we visited Hansa Park for the first time. The park made quite the impression on us and we had a blast! We visited the park on a rainy day so that influenced our day severely. When you visit the park on a day when the sun is blasting in the sky your experience could be very different.
Facts about the park
Hansa Park is located in Sierksdorf, in the north of Germany. It is located near the sea which gives it a unique location and some great views on the drop tower. The park opened as the second Legoland park in 1973 and was rebranded as Hansaland in 1977. In 1987 they changed their name to Hansa Park ,which still to this date remains their name. They have a collection of 7 rollercoasters which are well known in the coaster community. The most well-known being Schwur des Kärnen and Flucht von Novgorod. They also have a great collection of flat rides with the highlight being one of the biggest drop towers in Europe, Highlander.
Getting to the park
Hansa Park is located around a 15 minutes walk away from Sierksdorf station. This station is well connected with a frequent service from and to the station of Lübeck, which is quite a large station located in the north of Germany. This station has great connections to the rest of Germany. The parking is located across the street from a park and is connected to the entrance with a bridge that is also accessible to people with a wheelchair or a trolley.
The entry experience
We bought our tickets on-site as we didn’t know that we could have a reduction with the European Disability Card. We did get the discount on a ticket of a person with a disability and an assistant. This made the price for each ticket €38. We also had our luggage with us as this was the second park of our big trip. Luckily they offer a service for people with luggage that is too big to fit in their lockers. This was around €5. This is something that each park should have because it avoids problems and gives people a more comfortable day.
Our experience in the park
We had a blast from the moment we had put our luggage away. The park was empty and almost all of the attractions were walk-on. It was raining a lot though but we were prepared with our rain jackets.
We first did Nessie because Royal Scotsman was closed due to the rain (this will be a reoccurring theme). When we entered the station we were pleasantly surprised, the station was almost empty and we could go directly on the coaster. The theming in the station was amazing and we definitely didn’t expect an old Swartzkopf to be themed this well.
We did one coaster after another and every time we were surprised by how good the overall experience was. Almost all of the coasters are well themed and an amazing experience.
Flucht von Novgorod was the first ‘big’ coaster we did in the park and it definitely did not disappoint. The theming is outstanding and the coaster is a whole experience. The coaster packs a punch from the launch which is very strong right until the end of the ride, with a whole section being indoors. The exit of the coaster is a whole maze, which we were lost in twice, because they change the layout during the day. You can also use a slide instead of the stairs which also adds a lot to the experience.
Next we tried Schwur des Kärnan, one of the tallest coasters in Europe and boy this one did not disappoint as well. The whole experience was so unique from entering the queue line to going through the final inversion. I will not go into further details as I won’t spoil anything.
But if you want to learn more about the whole experience you can read it here:
After Schwur des kärnen we also tried out some of the flat rides. I managed to get a total of 7 spins on my first time on their Gerstlaurer Sky Fly. They also have some other great flat rides such as their intimidating drop tower Highlander and their really fun bumper car ride: Space Shooter, which is indoor and unlike any other bumper car ride you have ever seen.
Sadly we didn’t get to experience most of their kiddie coasters as they were closed due to the rain (even though it wasn’t raining anymore) which is a real shame. Other rides were also closed due to the rain such as their adventure trail and some of the water rides.
In the end we got five of seven credits and now we have a reason to get back in the near future. The ride line-up is amazing and full of quality rides which makes this park enjoyable for a whole day.
The food
The food in this park is quite good. It isn’t outstanding but what they offer is of good quality. We ate at their sit down restaurant in the New Lübeck area. We both ordered a cheeseburger. These were of good quality and actually were delicious. While we were dining we were also sheltering from the terrible weather, which is a bonus. They also offered a large selection of dessert which we didn’t try. The food wasn’t that expensive, which is great. We also tried nachos with cheese. These were delicious but the portion size was on the big side. This meant that we had to throw away quite a bit of food.
Conclusion
We had a blast visiting Hansa Park! We would love to come back one day and experience the park on a sunny day. This park is easily one of the best parks in Germany and you should really visit it. The collection of rides is outstanding, the staff is very friendly and the overall experience was amazing. This day was a 10/10!
