Oakwood Theme Park announces the immediate permanent closure of the park from 2025 onwards due to financial struggles.
Oakwood Theme Park is the largest amusement park in Wales. The closure of the park was mentioned in a blog post on the park’s website. Financial troubles are the reason for the closure.
Aspro Parks, the owner of the amusement park, saved Oakwood Theme Park from closure in 2008 and invested £25 million since. It states “Despite the ongoing investment visitor numbers have declined, the financial performance of the park has suffered, making further investment unsustainable.”
The group explored all different possibilities to avoid closure, but the park is simply not profitable enough.
Oakwood Theme Park was an important place for the local community, and has been a staple destination in the area since 1987.
The park was well known for its signature ride Megafobia, a wooden coaster that was recently renovated. It is not known yet if any rides will be relocated elsewhere.
