Merlin announces two new Minecraft themed lands that will be located in both the USA and UK

“Adventures Made Real” is the new global partnership announced between Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios. With the aim of bringing Minecraft to the theme park world, initially in the USA and the UK and later expanding to other Merlin locations around the globe.

Merlin will be investing a staggering £85 million in the first two locations. This is around €100 million or $110 million. The first two attractions that will be opening in the USA and the UK respectively are set to open between 2026 and 2027. 

These lands will include Minecraft themed attractions, retail and food & beverage. Merlin also aims to add guest accommodation to these locations. The concept arts show a purple roller coaster that could be included in this land.

Merlin wants to open Minecraft themed locations, with Merlin CEO Scott O’Neil stating: “Minecraft is the best-selling video game of all time, and this world-first will see fans experience its thrill and creativity in real life, at theme parks and city-centre attractions in leading tourist destinations. This initial investment is just the beginning, replicating Merlin’s tried-and-tested approach to globally launching new concepts and platforms, as we have with LEGO, Peppa Pig, Sony Pictures, CBeebies and others.”

Rumors

This announcement ties in with the long standing rumors about a new Minecraft themed land coming to Chessington World of Adventures. The new Minecraft world is rumored to replace the Wild Asia area of the park, with the inclusion of a new roller coaster that would mostly be located indoors.

On the evening of Tuesday 19th November, both the CEO of Merlin and the Vice-President Franchise Development for Gaming of Mojang will be speaking at IAAPA, giving more information about the upcoming collaboration.
